The combination of warming temperatures, gusty winds, and low relative humidities is creating hazardous burning conditions this afternoon. In addition, small fuels have dried out quickly which will make them more receptive to burning. Low level moisture is expected to steadily increase into the afternoon, so the threat for hazardous conditions is expected to be fairly short-lived. Gusts over 40 mph will become possible by mid to late afternoon, so any fire activity could be affected by even stronger winds by that time.
