Air Quality Alert issued March 4 at 9:11AM EST by NWS Wilmington NC

Descriere

The South Carolina Department of Environmental Services has issued an Air Quality Alert for fine particulates for Horry County in South Carolina until further notice. An Air Quality Alert means that the fine particulate concentrations within the specified areas may approach or exceed unhealthy standards due to local wildfire smoke in the Myrtle Beach area. High pressure over the Southeast U.S. will continue to dominate the region today, minimizing smoke dispersion from numerous wildfires in the area. Stable conditions and light winds will enhance the ground confinement of the smoke, especially overnight into the daytime morning hours. A cold front accompanied with showers and thunderstorms will move across the area Wednesday, which should help with wildfire containment efforts. SCDES recommends that individuals with respiratory health issues limit time spent outdoors and/or move all activities indoors to avoid the smoke or fine particulates. Keep windows and doors closed. Run an air conditioner if you have one but keep the fresh-air intake closed and the filter clean to prevent outdoor smoke and fine particulates from getting inside. Please note that locations closest to the wildfire activity are more likely to experience smoke at any given time. Special Weather Statement issued March 4 at 3:40AM EST by NWS Wilmington NC

Descriere

The combination of dry fuels, increasing afternoon SE winds and limited rainfall during the past couple weeks, will lead to continued dangerous and adverse fire behavior today across Southeast NC and Northeast SC. The South Carolina Forestry Commission will continue the SC state-wide burn ban until further notice. Please heed this burn ban and any local fire ordinances in order to mitigate any additional wildfires. Across NC, people are urged to avoid outdoor burning. If you must burn, use extreme caution since fires can grow quickly and become difficult to control in these conditions. Ensure fire suppression equipment is readily available.
